Royal Botanic Garden designated accessible viewing area

The Royal Botanic Garden Sydney caters for people with disability to create a safe, inclusive and enjoyable event.

People with disability can enter the accessible viewing area ballot to enjoy the fireworks with their friends and family.

Site description

  • This is a BYO food and beverage event 

  • No shade, bring a hat, sunscreen and rain jacket 

  • Accessible toilet facilities available 

  • Security and first aid available 

  • Low level but adequate lighting 

  • No seating. Bring your own rugs, blankets and low folding chair if required. 

  • Wheelchair accessible but movement restricted as guests are seated on the lawn 

  • Pathways are sealed and mostly flat. There are steps through the entry gate entry but alternative accessible entry available 

  • 1.5m aisle ways allow movement from viewing areas to amenities and facilities.

  • Enter at Art Gallery Road.

  • The event site is 600m from the entry gate. 

  • Access from 4pm, no entry after 8:30pm 

Booking information

Bookings essential. Reserved for people with disability and their family and friends. Apply for tickets in the free ballot by Monday 9 December. We’ll email successful applicants by Friday 13 December. 

Getting here

Public transport is the best way to get around on New Year’s Eve. Martin Place station is 1km from the entry gate. There’s a lift between Philip and Macquarie streets at Martin Place station. St James Station is 900m to the entry gate. There’s a lift at the Elizabeth Street entrance at Hyde Park. Trains won’t stop at Circular Quay station from 6pm to 1am. Driving isn’t recommended and there are no drop-off zones. Road closures from 5am. The nearest public car park is at The Domain. Vehicle clearance 1.9m. 

Buggy transfer

A free buggy transfer is offered from the entry gate to the New Year’s Eve event. Maximum 2 people per booking. Bookings essential.
